Build Renewable Energy Professionals - Create Jobs - BANC!
Hello fellow Solar Professionals. My name is Tara. I am a Boots Alumni and I started a company in PA 2 years ago. We have HUGE successes and we are very very busy. As I am sure everyone knows, competition in the Solar Industry has ramped up significantly. Everyone is trying to get in on this great industry. This makes us happy. We love renewable energy, energy efficiency, and anything conservation and green. However, we quickly realized that many companies do not have the same values, attention to quality and "common sense." Now, I need opinions please! Only in PA will a Solar Company have a news story about them cleaning off the snow off the roof so that they didn't "get an electric bill." Not a huge problem....The problem lies in the fact that there were 2 boys in jeans cleaning off the snow. (am I right that OSHA would have an issue with this??) This scene just terrified me. No harnesses on a commercial roof with very slippery weather conditions, nothing to stop the snow from hitting cars or people below. I am concerned for my customers that every time it snows my customers will hop on the roof..... Not a good, safe, or smart idea!

Thanks for your ideas. We never had a problem with poor performance because of the snow. Like you said, I want my customers to put the panels up and forget about them...and also forget about the electric bill they used to have :)
Hi Tara,
I would not worry to much about the customers getting on the roof.
My concern with a pic of kids cleaning off the snow would be all of the hours that we spend sitting @ a future customers kitchen table telling them that the snow on there Panels will not hinder the performance of there system.
I live in upper Bucks county near the river and I have not had any problems with the snow other than a couple days when it was below zero and the systems were producing so much that it was tripping the breakers.
If you are having problems with the systems performance due to the snow I would talk to your distributor and have a Tech from the manufacturer check it out.
The snow melts off the panels in a short period and with the suns reflextion off of the snow and the cold temp they should be producing @ there max.
Maybe some one should educate these people and tell them to leave the Panels alone!
Trust me I plow in the winter and we got hamerd this year.
